Weights of evidence modeling for landslide susceptibility mapping of Kabi-Gebro locality, Gundomeskel area, Central Ethiopia

Abstract Kabi-Gebro locality of Gundomeskel area is located within the Abay Basin at Dera District North Shewa Zone in Central highland Ethiopia and it about 320Km from Addis Ababa. This characterized by undulating topography, intense rainfall, active erosion highly cultivated area. Geologically, comprises weathered sedimentary volcanic rocks. Active landslides damaged gravel road, houses agricultural land. The main objective this research to prepare landslide susceptibility map using GIS-based Weights Evidence model. Based on detailed field assessment Google Earth image interpretation, 514 were identified classified randomly into training (80%) validation (20%). most common types study include earth slide (rotational translational slide), debris slide, flow, rock fall, topple, creep complex. Nine causative factors such as lithology, slope, aspect, curvature, land use/land cover, distance stream, lineament, spring rainfall used a adding weights contrast values these rater calculator spatial analyst tool ArcGIS. final was reclassified very low, moderate, high classes. validated density index under curve (AUC). result model showed success rate accuracy 82.4% 83.4% respectively. Finally, implementing afforestation strategies bare land, constructing surface drainage channels & ditches, providing engineering reinforcements gabion walls, retaining anchors bolts whenever necessary prohibiting hazardous zones can be recommended order lessen impact
